HYDSYS For Drainage - managing storm drainage systems
HYDSYS is software designed to help you analyze storm drainage systems. Using selected hydrologic methods, it covers the entire analytic process from the determination of a design rainstorm to model calibration, and the production of hyetographs, hydrographs, plans and profiles. Using your pipe network and zoning designations for paved and grassed contributing areas, it will highlight undersized pipes and will calculate the required pipe diameters, capacities and velocities. Features which allow models to be linked together make it possible to analyze systems of virtually any size or complexity. Using HYDSYS, you may simulate the drainage of a subdivision before and after development and then determine the attenuating effects of stormwater detention ponds. It will enable you to predict a system's performance during extreme or high return period rainstorms or to identify and correct deficiencies of developing urban drainage systems.

    Erosion Process
The waterfront is the scene of the most dramatic interactions between water, wind, and land. Moving air and water carry material from place to place, eroding and depositing, constantly changing the shoreline. If erosion is not balanced by accretion, the shore will be washed away. Understanding the dynamics of erosion and accretion along the shore is important: to safeguard your property, you need to know how to work with these natural forces, not against them.

    Information about SSIIM 1.4
"The SSIIM program is made for use in River/Environmental/Hydraulic/Sedimentation Engineering. It calculates water, sediment flow and water quality in three dimensions, solving the Navier-Stokes equations with the k-epsilon turbulence model. The convection-diffusion equations are solved to calculate sediment transport and water quality constituent transport. The calculations are time-dependent and an adaptive grid moves vertically to account for changes in water and bed level. "

The Federally recognized name of each feature described in the data base is identified, and references are made to a feature's location by State, county, and geographic coordinates. The GNIS is our Nation's official repository of domestic geographic names information. "CORPSCON, Version 4.11, is an MS-DOS based program which allows the user to convert coordinates between Geographic, State Plane and Universal Transverse (UTM) on both North American Datum of 1927 (NAD 27) and North American Datum of 1983(NAD 83). CORPSCON uses the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) program NADCON to convert between NAD 27 and NAD 83. CORPSCON, Version 4.11, also performs vertical conversions to and from the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD 29) and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Vertical conversions can be performed for the continental U.S. only. Also, CORPSCON does not perform conversions based on High Accuracy Reference Networks (HARN's). To perform conversion on HARN's, NADCON, Version 2.10, must be used. NADCON can be obtain from the National Geodetic Survey. "

"Regulation of wetlands is undergoing significant change. Last August, the Clinton Administration proposed sweeping reforms to the federal wetlands regulatory scheme. Similarly broad legislation has been introduced in the Congress. Although wetlands reform bills have been proposed in the past several sessions of Congress, there is growing consensus that a bill will pass this year. Clean Water Act reauthorization and wetlands are at the top of Congress' environmental agenda for 1994."

"Over the last two centuries, the United States has lost half of its historic wetlands base, resulting in increased flooding, poorer water quality and diminished wildlife populations across the country. Section 404 of the Clean Water Act has reduced wetlands loss, but the United States continues to lose tens of thousands of irreplaceable acres of wetlands annually. NWF urges Congress to ensure that the Clean Water Act's goal to "restore and maintain" the nation's waters and wetlands is retained."

Storm water management encompasses a number of control measures, which may be either structural or non-structural (including policy and procedural measures) in nature. The control measures utilized to accomplish the desired goals are often referred to as "best management practices", or BMP's. "

The General Wastewater Discharge Permit (General Permit), as it is referred to in the rules submitted by the MDEQ, allows participating communities to set their own goals for restoring or protecting rivers, lakes and streams in the State of Michigan.
